How to alter your server

Post by spellheart_com » Wed Oct 16, 2013 3:32 am

Hello!

This guide will help you alter your server to your specific needs, lets jump right into detail.

First, open a server and join it with the game client, run the game client in windowed mode.

Now we need to find a file, and this can be done in two different ways:

1. Press the "Open Variables" button on the server.
2. Locate the shortcut to the game, right click it and select "Open file location".
Go into the folder "Game", there you will see the file named "Variables.txt". Open it.

This is the file that can alter the game, and you only need this file to do it.

Locate the row that starts with "ABILITY_FIRE_BALL_SPEED" (by searching for it), it will look something like this:

Code: Select all

ABILITY_FIRE_BALL_SPEED = 12
Change the value (the value is always the text to the right of the "=" sign, in this case "12") and change the value to "2".
Now save the file, go into your game client and use the ability "Fire Ball", it should be moving very slowly now.

As you might have noticed, most of the values in the file can be changed in real-time, which means that you can have your server up and running with active players, and the values will be updated for all players instantly.

If you want to ban an ability or item, search for "BANNED", and change the value to "true".

When you feel good about your changes, take a backup of the "Variables.txt" file somewhere else on your computer. Do not place it in the game folder, as it would just be removed by the launcher.

From here, you can experiment with whatever you want, try some things in the file for yourself.
You should consider to use Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) when opening the "Variables.txt" file. This makes it a lot easier to edit.
I would recommend trying to ban all abilities without Fire Ball and Dispel Environment, and setting Fire Ball to do 500 damage, it's a lot of fun to try to dispel the fireball before it one-shots you. ;)
